When we first started Three Pennies, we thought that North of Atlanta wasn’t the most ‘ideal’ area to start a creative business. There wasn’t a beach nearby or some massive national reserve; just simple buildings and cow pastures. But as our shooting increased, our complaining about the locations decreased because we soon realized that great photography almost always has a great subject infront of the lens, and that we DID have. The creative community that we have slowly discovered around Atlanta is becoming the best part of living and shooting here.

So far our career in photography has been a short one, but oh has it been a good one. During that time Philip has realized that he loves shooting concerts. It was love at first sight when Philip shot at Bigstuf Camps (bigstuf.com) and then had confirmation when the opportunity for Do Good Experience (Do Good Conference) came about. As we became more involved within this community, more opportunities started coming up.

The Catalyst Conference, was our first aha moment that we were involved with something bigger that ourselves. With Catalyst being one of the largest gatherings of young leaders in the country, the conference was both a challenge and a huge learning experience. The Catalyst site says it the best, “Catalyst brings people together – the influencers, the do-ers, the cultural architects, and the change agents who will reclaim our communities and culture for good.” Being able to capture an event of this magnitude will definitely be one of our top moments in our first year.

We hope that you not only enjoy these photos but that you attend the Catalyst Conference in 2011, it’ll be a good one!

Three Pennies loves community. That’s how we get by. The older we become the more realize how valuable a good community is.  This past week Three Pennies covered  an event called Loving Forsyth. Put on by the local community for the local community. It’s hard to describe to the realization that there are so many in need so close to home but it’s a necessary understanding. Loving Forsyth was a great event, packed with BBQ, activities, health clinics, donations, and live music. Much more to come from those that hosted this event and I’m sure Three Pennies will be at the next one.

If Three Pennies can fit a need of any organization that you know of or are apart of, please let us know and we’ll do our best to be there!

If I only had three words to summarize the past decade of summers, there would be no hesitation, Panama City Beach. Host to sketchy night life, the single craziest wal-mart I’ve ever visited and Bigstuf. Anna was basically raised by the combination of Bigstuf musicians, communicators, staffers, and infamous interns. Not only did Anna and I meet there during the most awkward stages of the 9th grade but we were married there…just kidding, but we’ve never missed a summer since. Now that we’ve outgrown attending as students we just go hang out with her incredible parents and the rest of the Bigstufers. Because all I had during my student days was a single use film camera (which never made it home) I decided to do a little better documenting this time.

The Man. The Legend. The Father-in-Law... Danny Dukes

Last week I had the amazing opportunity to photograph the Do Good *Experience.* A two day experience created  for students to come together and do something very simple, very practical, and very impactful… to “do good.” The ultimate goal of the Do Good organization is to combine 200,000 students into impacting their communities.

I think that the greatest part of this experience was meeting people who have dreams similar to that of  Three Pennies. People that want to serve their communities while doing what they love and were created to do. The Do Good lineup included Jamie Tworkowski (To Write Love on Her Arms), Jon Acuff ( Stuff Christians Like) Rob Crow (Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee) Rodney McClure (One Need), Carlos Whittaker (Ragamuffin Soul), Eddie Kirkland (Eddie Kirkland Music), D’Hati Lewis (Blueprint Church) and the guys from Live Love. Check out these links and see what these amazing organizations/people are doing.
